No days pass without enlightenment. No days pass.

All those things are by the by. Nothing is ever wrong! Even "wrong" reactions.

I identify with the dinner issue!

I have a fantasy that fantasies are enlightening. :-D

Oh boy, don't I know it! Except when I forget it. Leaving out the dark parts, like, I'm human and ordinary. It's been a real eye opener lately to realize how denying the dark things does nothing but increase suffering. Which seems so contrary to, at least my own, conditioning. I'm really starting to understand why a friend protests when people say "it's all good." No, some of it sucks, is uncomfortable, unpleasant, painful, etc...
But then, with a little practice (or a lot) comes a closer look.

Ha! Just realized how much less scrutiny we must give when it's good, comfortable, pleasant, etc... Because THAT closer look, when the fantasy is going our way... Well, that would ruin all the fun.

I'm gonna ride off with Bob! Thanks, everyone, for offering your guidance.

About

  • Zen teachers sometimes use the Ten Ox Herding Pictures to describe the path of awakening. Within this metaphorical framework, the ox symbolizes the secretive, unruly human mind.
  • This weblog reflects my ongoing struggle with the ox. You can reach me (Barry Briggs) at oxherding [at] mac.com.
