In 2010 the artist Marina Abramović staged a performance piece entitled, "The Artist is Present," at the Museum of Modern Art. Over the course 750 hours, Abramović sat motionless and silent in a chair while visitors sat in front of her. Artist and visitor would look at each other for a minute, and then another visitor would sit down.
Today's video reveals Abramović's response when a former lover, who she had not seen for many years, takes a seat. Although Abramović is known for her formal discipline, she went beyond name and form to encounter Ulay with an open heart and mind.
And then the next person sat down.
That's how it is in this precious world.
Thank you for reading Ox Herding. May we together go beyond name and form this weekend!
